Alternative Valentines gifts

Let's make Valentines day a little better with some unique gifts ideas

Valentine's Day 2017 - Its on Tuesday, February 14 - by the way :-)

Whether your loved up, casually dating or free as a bird, Valentine's Day is on its way and it's something we can all celebrate. There are those who love it, those who hate it and those who try to forget it. However here at London Fashion Blog we will use any excuse for a party and we just love a bit of pink glitter and a few heart cupcakes.

It doesn't have to be all teddy bears and slinky underwear though (although we do like a bit of slinky underwear if we're honest.) Valentine's Day is what you make it so why not do something different? How about an alternative date? Instead of the usual dinner for two or seeing a film, how about a sushi work shop for two? Or a spin on the London Eye? Think about the things that you and that special someone enjoy and go with it. It could be a round of golf together, a trip to Harry Potter world or a night in with your favourite horror films, plenty of snacks and phones turned off. If your in a relationship, it's about making time for each other and communicating. Sounds easy but it's not, with busy work lives, social lives, family, hobbies etc it can be tough and if you put kids into the mix then it can feel downright impossible. Time for just the two of you is important as its only natural to take each other for granted sometimes. We all like to feel special and be reminded that we are loved. Even its its just going for a long walk together.

If your just at the stage of getting to know each other then now is a good time to find out what you have in common. Maybe you both enjoy comedy and can go to a comedy club together. Or perhaps you love Lighthouses and can plan a tour of the country's best ones. (Known as lighthouse bagging.) Spark up a conversation and discover your new flames passions, maybe you could try something they love that you've never even thought of. Alternatively you could both try something new. Ever been tank driving? Why not give it ago? Still not sure what to do? Have a read of this valentines date gide which has over 40 great ideas on what to do and where to do it.

If your single then embrace it. If you want to find that special someone then put yourself out there, whether that's internet dating, speed dating or evening classes. Just meeting new people in different situations and getting to chat will increase your chances of finding love. Give yourself the chance and be brave, go on blind dates, chat to the girl/guy in the club and keep an open mind.

Alternatively there are loads of people who are just happy being single, free to do what they want and see who they choose. Although we here at London Fashion Blog believe that's no reason to neglect poor St Valentine. In fact it's an opportunity to make your own traditions. You could go out with a group of friends and dance the night away, glammed up and living life to the full. Or you could have some friends around, throw a dinner party or have a film night. Or you could spend it alone doing exactly what you want, cook yourself your favourite meal and curl up with a great book and a large glass of wine. Why not buy yourself a valentine’s gift? Just because you choose to be single it doesn't mean you have to miss out. Buy yourself a treat; you could even get it wrapped. It's all about enjoying your life and thinking outside the box.

Whatever you do this Valentine's Day, enjoy it. February is a dull month so take the opportunity to brighten it up in your own unique way. Sign up for dancing classes, try sailing, run away to Brighton for a mid week break or share a bag of chips while walking along the beach. Valentine's Day isn't about buying into commercialism; it's about loving your self and your life.
